Maya is a 12 year old student at Windward School. For most of her life she has lived in California, meaning she has experienced crises such as droughts and many wildfires. More recently, our whole world has gone through a global warming crisis, causing Maya and others to become increasingly concerned with the health of our planet. When challenged with the CBL project, Maya's group decided that they wanted to do something that was related to the concept of reduce, reuse, and recycle. This is important to her in many ways, but mostly because she wants to have a healthy life and an even healthier life for her future children and grandchildren.
Zoe is a 12 year old student at Windward School. Last year she was on an upper school green team and was very in touch with the problem that people are wasting things that can be recycled. She has lived in three cities, LA obviously being one. When she was little and heard about the fact that California was in a drought it scared her very much, she remembers asking someone what Zoe, a 3rd grader, could do about that. They responded with recycle what can be recycled, even minor things can save climate change. Since then she is proud to say she's stuck with it and is very happy to be using that motive to continue this project for CBL.
I’m Djuna, ever since I moved to LA I have been exposed to an outrageous amount of plastic bag debris. Whether is on the sidewalk, the side of the highway, or even the occasional “Thank You” bag floating by my house, litter has always been something that the thought of sickens me. Even when I was very young I would ask my parents why people don’t just clean up their mess, and why people don’t just take plastic out of the ocean. It seemed so simple, but now I realize that we have dug ourselves into a hole we can’t get out of, and what used to be simple is now extremely difficult. I am part of multiple charities to help our planet, and at my old school we would have a whole day dedicated to our planet, and what we can do to help it. Both of which were very inspiring to me and motivated me to do something to help our planet and I feel that the CBL is a great place to start.
